Power of the hook man

Ok, let me put ANYONE who has aspirations of making a hit song on to game:
1)A GOOD hook will make an ENTIRE SONG,
2) Strong hooks are the reason that many of ur current artist(i.e. Ray J) even have a career at the moment,
and
3) Pleasure P (formerly of Pretty Ricky) is a hook-man extrordinaire, his solo songs suck, but his hooks are FIRE...

Artist like Trey Songz, Lloyd, and The Dream are 3 of the most sought after for a good hook

"Power of the hook" is demonstrated by the aformentioned Pleasure P on these to NEW joints. As camera phone-ish as the above pic looks, is how local these Florida rappers are, but nonetheless, they are blessed with a good hook, which means they may actually get some radio play.

New Breed ft Flo-rida and Pleasure P- One Night HOTT
Dunk Ryders ft Pleasure P- Meeting in my bedroom HOTTT

Maino ft. Swizz Beatz, T.I., Plies, Jadakiss & Fabolous- Hi Hater remix

Here's the remix to the catch anthem from Maino. Not really feeling Maino that much, but the combo of Swizzy, TIP, Plies, Jada, and Fab make this a must have

Tyga ft Lil Wayne and Rich Boy- Coconut Juice Remix

New-comer Tyga grabs Weezy and Ruch Boy for the remix of his first single "Coconut Juice." Haven't really listened to Tyga's stuff that much yet, but it seems like he might have a little talent. Looking forward to seeing if Tyga, who is signed to Young Money Entertainment, can live up to the hype stations like MTV are giving him...Nice little jam right here, check it

One more for u, ft. Cory Gunz whose welcome to blow up any day now

Ryan Leslie

Really starting to anticipate R-Les' debut album set to drop in September. As mentioned in previous posts, homeboys style is just SO original, and he really illustrates what it means to be an artist; while he is not the greatest singer, his r&b/hip hop/rock/jazz/techno style is creative enough to compensate. Check these two new joints out and look out for more new Ryan Leslie joints from ur #1 get right source, P&L On THE ROCS!!!

Sean Garrett Rick Ross- Six in the morning (Remix)

I actually mess with Sean Garrett's CD, even though I still think he should stay behind the scenes as a writer. The Boss jumps on this remix and sets the song of just right..Check it out..

Yung Berg ft Cap-1 and Hunnit Grand- Just for the Freaks

Well if nothing else he sure does choose some hot production... Guess I'll apologize for hating on him... because that The Business joint is fire too

Just for the Freaks

Lloyd- Let me Know

More new Lloyd..not as impressive as other material of late, but a decent radio friendly cut. Check it out

Let Me Know

Put On remix ft Jay-Z

OK, heres the CDQ/Explicit version...Put On is DEFINITELY the biggest hip hop song not named A Milli this year, but the I expected a little more out of the remix especially considering Jigga was on it...IDK..It still goes hard tho

Put On Remix (CDQ/EXPLICIT)

Tuesday clutter....Cassie ft Lil Wayne- Official Girl

A Cassie song usually wouln't get a second look from me, but in this case, the Wayne feature helps her case. Decent cut from the otherwise talentless singer. I really think she would have a more worthwhile career in modeling, seeing as tho she has the height and is mostly skin and bones, along with a gorgeous face. But nonetheless, Diddy "believes" in her...Either that, or he isn't quite ready to let her out of his bed--or---um---I mean grasp lol..anyway, check this joint out

***Bonus***

Huey Feat Trey Songz- No Make Up

Even though Huey's first big single Pop Lock n Drop It was probably the club song of the previous year, I didn't expect to hear from him, umm well ever again. This track paired with Trey Songz who if you've read previous post, know that we are high on works for Huey. His flow is solid on this track produced by Soundz, who had a couple of tracks on Usher's Here I Stand cd, which isn't selling for i don't know what reason... but we'll leave that for another post, get this one

No Make Up

Lil' Wayne ft Nu Jerzey Devil- Pimpin (NO DJ, CDQ)

Wayne spits a little game to the masses on this track. Im convinced that if Wayne wanted to release a song for a day, for the next year or so, and not record anything new, he definitely could...

Pimpin

R. Kelly

These tracks are rumored to be off Kelly's upcoming release, 12 Play 4th Quarter. Typical stuff from the pied piper here, talking bout paternity uncertainty, toungue work, the "screamer" in the bedroom, and even raps bout his two seater. The man is a musical genius, no denying that. And despite his life issues, he puts out hits, period....

Red Dirt ft Rick Ross & Tank- I'm Yo Hustla

I'm Yo Hustla

A reflection of a slow couple days of music, a decent track with nice production and new R&B group Red Dirt... give it a spin

I'm A 80's Babyyyyyyyy

I'm pretty sure if you don't know what the above picture is, this post isnt for you. You ever wonder why Bobby Brown gets so much press to this day, well he was the Usher of the 80's except far bigger. Alot of our music today is "sampled" from older tracks, which is why you'll be telling yourself you've heard alot of these songs b4. Chances are you were conceived to one of these songs, so why not keep the streak your father started going...

Al B Sure- Oooooh This Love is So

DeBarge- A Dream

DeBarge- I Like It

DeBarge- Stay With me

Bel Biv DeVoe- When Will I See You Smile Again

Guy- Goodbye Love

Bobby Brown- Roni'

Bobby Brown- Rock Witcha

Tony! Toni! Tone'!- It Never Rains

Tony! Toni! Tone'!- Whatever You Want

Cameo- Sparkle

Debra Laws- Very Special

The Commodores- Say Yeah

Al B Sure- Die For You

Al B Sure- Natalie

Yung Joc- Gigolo

Gigolo

Because nothing new has come out in the past few days, I'll give you all this Yung Joc track from a week or two ago, either way its new to you... Normal Joc flow on this one, but man the real reason for this post is the production by Drumma Boy, he already gave you the song of the year thus far (Put On) to go along with T.I.'s What Up, which if you haven't heard check previous post, you'll be happy you did unless your a friend or relative of Shawty Lo... Since he got his big break with Jeezy its pretty safe to assume he's gonna be all over his upcoming Recession album.... Look out for him

Rick Ross ft Trey Songz- This Is The Life

To be real, I could give a shit bout if Ross was involved in law enforcement. That just means he probably saw more then most of these wannabe thugs/d-boys turned rappers. Plus, the man's flow and swag is on another level. Add a Trey Songz hook and u got a SMASH...So gon' head Deputy Ross...Theme song material

Lee Carr ft Jadakiss- Stilletos rmx

"This one for the Radio"...lol..New comer Lee Carr gets Jada to jump on this one that is strictly made for the radio. Definitely not wishing any ill-will on young Mr. Carr, but I wouldnt be surprised if this is the last time I hear him. In other news, where has Jadakiss been??? Ever since Kiss of Death he has only popped up every now and then, with nothing to exciting to speak on. Anyway, check it out if for nothing else a tight
beat and the Jadakiss feature...

Stilletos (Remix)

The Game (ft. Lil Wayne)- My Life CDQ

***UPDATE*** NEW CDQ ALBUM VERSION

My Life (ft. Lil Wayne)

Pies ft. Jamie Foxx and The Dream- Please Excuse My Hands

Been waiting on this video. Plies is another one of those cats whose seemingly came outta nowhere with a HOT CD with some great production and feature appearances

>

A lesson in Love...

Lloyd is back with his 3rd album, and with these being the last unrelease songs off the album, its safe to say that you need to be in the store money in hand August 5th... Big shouts to the good people over at Urban Music for the tracks...

Have My Baby

I'm Wit It

Love Makin 101

Party All Over Your Body

Karina Pasian- Winner

Winner

Young, beautiful and talented, a triple threat that many claim to have a gasp on that turns out to be nothing more than potential never realized for most. The 16 yr old Pasian, Goddaughter of great producer Quincy Jones has been playing the piano since the age of 3. Comparisons to the likes of Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys pretty much say more than I can in these few sentences... Anyway give her a listen...

T- Pain Talking about Thr33 Ringz

I really am anxious to hear Thr33 Ringz seeing as tho T-Pain is one of the hottest, most sought after artists/producers in the game right now. His first to albums were decent, but Im expecting this one to be full of bangers given his recent success...Also, peep the article where T-Pain is talking bout the T-Wayne (T-Pain and Lil' Wayne) collabo album

Yung Berg feat. Lloyd- Manager

Manager

I think I've fully displayed my dislike for Yung Berg in previous post, so I'll use this song as the latest example of what a properly blessed hook can do for a song... Lloyd is simply hot right now, i beginning to think his sales may rival that of Usher, which is pretty crazy to think... anyway more on the way...

Avant- Yes

Yes

Being that he is from my hometown of Cleveland, I've been around his music for quite a while. Every one of his CD's are worth spending your money and buying. A silky smooth voice, on top of solid song writing, knowing his vocal limits and properly utilizing them, has carved him a spot in the game for nearly 10 years now, the type of longevity that is become increasingly rare... He puts it together again on this song, hope you left space on your bedroom mix, ya dig?

Gorilla Zoe feat. Lil Wayne- Lost

Lost

Next on the vocoder Gorilla Zoe, feat vocoder vet Lil Wayne, and production from Drumma Boy(Put On), i'll leave the opinion on this one up to you...

Sterling Simms-Sex in the City

Sex in the city

Wondering who exactly Sterling Simms' is, well in 2006 some rapper you may have heard of named Jay-Z tagged an unknown artist named Sterling Simms to sing the hook on his Dig a Hole track, a good look to say the least... Fast Forward 2 yrs and although Simms hasnt reached the heights some thought he would've this track is for sure a step in the right direction... please listen to this one

Ja Rule- Pushin It (Robin Thicke)

Now before u continue to move ur browser down the page b/c u refuse to give the beaten, and battered Ja Rule a chance, check this joint out. To be totally honest, its a good song, and is perfect for Ja Rule. He makes good pop music every now and then, and that just seems to be his nitch at the moment. I guess if u look back at his early work (i.e. Vinni Vidi Vicci), he was thriving with the "gangster" rap thing too, but this is where he's at right now, plane and simple. Robin Thicks's feature doesn't hurt either...Give it a listen/download

Pushin It

Young Jeezy ft Kanye West- Put On (video)

Little late with this video to be coming out, but this song goes hard so its whatever. Plus, the remix ft. Jay-Z few others will be dropping any day now

More NEW R&B from Mario, One Chance, and Trey Songz

Shortage of quality hip-hop tracks surfacing, but the r&b cats got u covered. Here's 3 offerings from the r&b side of things

Ne-yo- Breakin Up

Man, the homeboy Ne-yo has SO much unreleased material coming out...Still dont have a tracklist for the August release entitled "Year Of The Gentleman", but I'm sure some of them will be included on the CD seeing as though many of them are QUALITY tracks. This one is pretty striaght too. Ne-yo just has a way of articulating an EXACT situation and making his listeners feel it and this cut is no different

Usher- One Hand (full)

This is DEFINITELY the banger that I said it would be. Why was this left off of Here I Stand??? Anyway, more on the way...

***BONUS***

Lil Wayne- Real Rap

Real Rap

I really don't know what to say about Wayne, with Jay-Z still in the game crowning someone else the best rapper alive, a title which Wayne has given himself is tough. But when you really think about the amount of material he is spilling out, how could it be anyone else... Put this on your ipod asap...

Yung Berg- Out of Space

Out of Space

Personally i think Yung Berg is a clown, but this song is fire... I wonder who's gonna be next on the vocoder, T-Pain really got a movement started with it...

Pretty Ricky- Knockin the Boots '08

If nothing else, these fellas make some good music to...well...knock some boots to. The one bright spot in terms of real talent, Pleasure P, decided to go solo and see what he can do (smart move, but he really only needs to be a chorus singer to be real), and the group has since added a new singing member named "4 play." This obviously is the remake of H-Towns original, with a little bit of a Pretty Ricky style. Like I said, if nothing else, u can always count on a few ones to set the mood just right in the bedroom from this quartet, and this is no different...Keepin em coming!

Knockin the Boots '08

Q- Think About Me

I'm actually anticipating both Q's and Slim's (formerly of 112) solo CD's. 112 is one of my favorite R&B groups so I guess its only right to support their members in their solo endeavors. Not classic 112 type material, but nonetheless a modest effort...

Trey Songz- Murder She Wrote

I swear the VA native has more hip-hop based r&b then actual r&b, but I still mess with him. This uptempto track has a nice beat, decent chorus, and is pretty much a traditional Trey Songz cut. Check it out and see if u can get with it...

Lloyd feat. Plies-Year of the Lover remix

Lloyd's material has been consistently hot, his voice floats over the track, paired with the grit that Plies brings to the mic on every song, you have a good combination, and a better track...

Year of the Lover remix

Ciara- High Price (ft. Ludacris)

Typical "Crunk n B" track from Cici featuring one of her main sidekicks, Luda. Sticking to the formula pretty much gurantees an artist will stay relevant, but sometimes u like to see something that comes from way left field from them. I've heard some of the other tracks of her upcoming 3rd LP and it seems like she is doing some different things, so I give Ms. Harris credit. She never has had the best voice, but she is a GREAT entertainer and she's usually (she has her times lol) great to look at...Check this joint out and see if ur feeling it

High Price

Ne-yo- Miss Independent

With the ever-present I.N.D.E.P.E.N.D.E.N.T. movement among women, equaling their male counterparts in every facet of life, and many female artists' asserting this concept through song, it was about time for a male to talk about the renaissance women. And despite what many women may think, Ne-yo makes it clear that when a woman is independent, strong, confident, etc, its actually even MORE appealing...Thus the "new-age" woman is in and I definitly have to agree..Ain't NOTHIN sexier then a chick that is on her shi*t!!!..So, all my fly, strong, and Independent Misses, this one is FOR U...And fellas, let em know that we LOVE IT

Big Boi and Mary J- Sumthins Gotta Give

Nice little collabo right here, w/ two heavy hitters coming together for a track, it usually is. Im really looking forward to Big Boi's solo project set to drop later on this year. MJB has that great "hook voice", and has blessed many hip hop heavyweights with classic feature apprearances. This one is no different, nice mellow track, that actually has a good message= substance...Check it out

Ryan Leslie- Break This Down

Man, my man R-Les keeps em coming with his innovative overall sound, and this is no exception. Alot of his shit reminds makes me of chillin at a cool little lounge, with ur homeboys/girls and some top shelf liquor in hand, just relaxing and enjoying life. LOL, thats just me tho haha..Anyway, Check out Break This Down...

Break This Down

Big Kuntry King feat Trey Songz- Da Baddest

Now I've never been a fan of psc artist Big Kuntry King, lyrics are nothing special, and a voice that never seems to mesh well with the track, and by track I mean everything I've heard him on lol, anyway with production from Shawty Redd the song overcomes all of "King's" shortcomings...

Da Baddest

Robin Thicke- Magic Remix (ft. Freeway)

Freeway jumps on the remix of Robin Thicke's Magic. Thicke's CD Something Else is at the top of my "most anticipated" list, and Thicke is in my top 10 current artist hands down. Dude just manages to make great music, but still do it different from the norm. Can't really classify it as total R&B, b/c it has some rock, blues, and pop influence wrapped up in it. Whatever u wanna call it, there is no doubt that he does his thing, and his september release should be more great music.

Magic rmx

***UPDATE***

R. Kelly- Skin

Kellz hits us with an uptempo bedroom banger in the mold of J. Holiday's Bed and Usher's Trading Places (at least thats what it reminds me of). The Pied Piper had put out some REAL sub par material, so Im glad to see there is till hope for the man. Check this one out

Skin
